METTER, Ga. — Two Georgia deputies risked their own safety to save two dogs trapped perilously close to a trailer fire.
Deputy Coursey and Capt. O’Brien with the Candler County Sheriff’s Office were helping Metter firefighters at the scene of a trailer fully engulfed in flames earlier this week when they heard two dogs barking.
Body camera video showed the deputies run directly toward the raging fire, where they found one dog on a chain and another in a metal crate.

“Hot, hot, hot,” one deputy said as he got closer to the flames.
Deputies were able to get one dog off the chain by taking his collar off, but quickly realized the other dog was trapped in a burning hot metal crate directly next to the burning trailer.

One deputy tried to pull the crate away from the flames with his bare hands, burning himself. Another deputy was able to cut the crate open with wire cutters.
Both pups were full of gratitude and tail wags as they ran away from the fire.
It’s unclear if anyone lived in the trailer or whether it was a storage unit.
