ATLANTA — It took more than three months and drew national and international attention. On Tuesday, the U.S. Senate runoff election in Georgia finally came to an end.

The Georgia Secretary of State officially certified the results of the two Senate runoff races.

Jan. 15 was the deadline for all Georgia counties to certify their runoff results. The state had until this Friday to certify the results.

The state certification clears the way for Democrats Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock to be sworn in by Kamala Harris after the presidential inauguration Wednesday.

The offices for Ossoff and Warnock confirmed the swearing in will happen sometime after 4:30 p.m.

Most of the counties certified their results by last week’s deadline, but the certification had one final hiccup.

Fulton County called an emergency virtual meeting of its election board Tuesday morning to re-certify its results.

State officials noticed a problem with vote totals in two north Fulton precincts while reviewing them. The precincts did not show any election day voting in the final numbers.

Fulton County is reaching out to Dominion to figure out how the error occurred, but officials say it’s an example of how the backstops in the system work.
