DeKalb Drug Bust Yields Arrests, Guns, Cash

A major drug bust in DeKalb County leads to 18 arrests and authorities say it is connected to two international drug rings.

Federal and local law enforcement officers swarmed several homes Wednesday near Wesley Chapel and Paonla Road.  Authorities say they worked on the bust for at least 30 days.

DeKalb County's District Attorney, Robert James, tells Channel 2 Action News 20 kilos of cocaine, $250,000 in cash and several guns were confiscated.  "It is a major hit, one that I have not seen before taking two drug rings out at the same time. We took at least 15-16 drug dealers off the streets and two big-time traffickers in one swoop. That is a big deal," said James.

According to investigators, the international drug ring transported cocaine from Mexico to DeKalb County and then filtered it out into the community.

Authorities are expecting to make at least one more arrest.
