Danger: Drugs To Study Could Harm the Brain

More than 1 of 3 college-age people have used ADHD drugs like Adderall for non-medical purposes. Most say they use them to help study and get better grades. A new study in the journal "Pharmacy" warns this growing trend is dangerous.

Dr. Daniel Lieberman, psychiatrist and professor at Georgia Washington University, says you could become dependent on the drug. He says, "the problem is that it's like taking the escalator instead of the stairs, it's not going to get you an farther and over time what happens is reliance of this drug weakens your ability to climb on your own."

For healthy people who don't have ADHD the drug is not helping them, in fact it could hurt them. Results of the new study, are published in the journal “Pharmacy”.
