Crews begin construction on airport’s North deck revitalization project

ATLANTA — Finding parking at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport may be the hardest part of your next trip.

Construction has upended parking for the last nine months as crews work on a multimillion-dollar project to revitalize the South parking deck.

As crews wrap up on the South deck, they are also starting on the North deck and officials say they have definitely learned from some of the challenges that travelers have faced.

“One was, to make sure we are letting people know. Two, we didn’t have as many roadway signs that we have now,” said Jai Ferrell, deputy manager of Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

Not only are travelers encouraged to pay attention to the signs, but also give yourself some extra time because if you can’t find space in the North or South decks, there is guaranteed parking further out in the ATL West lot, which offers a direct shuttle via the sky train.

“It always takes a little extra time getting in and out of Atlanta,” traveler Jason Gauther said.

And don’t forget, you can always navigate around the parking hassle with a ride share or MARTA.

“I just hop on the train, and it takes me right to the airport,” traveler Bill Ballor said.

Officials hope to have the North deck project completed by the end of the year.
