BARTOW COUNTY, Ga. — A Georgia fire department is mourning the loss of one of their own.

In a Facebook post, the Bartow County Fire Department announced the passing of firefighter Matthew Smith.

The department stated that Smith died Tuesday afternoon, from complications of a medical episode during a training exercise last Thursday.

Funeral arrangements for Smith have not yet been released.

“Please keep the Smith family and our department in your prayers during this difficult time,” the department wrote.

The department did not say how long Smith worked for Bartow County Fire.
