Hank Aaron remembered for philanthropy work giving back to Atlanta Technical College

ATLANTA — Atlanta Technical College honored the life and legacy of Hank Aaron Monday by lowering their flags to half staff. The Braves legend and philanthropist died at age 86 last week.

Channel 2′s Kristen Holloway visited the campus where many showed up to reflect on everything Aaron did for education advancement.

“We are appreciative and humbled by the amazing impact of Mr. Aaron. We’re better because of his impact. We’re better because we knew him,” ATC President Victoria Seals said.

For nearly 25 years, Aaron was a major contributor to need-based scholarship programs. He also served on the college’s board since 1997.

“We are appreciative and humbled the amazing impact of Mr. Aaron. We’re better because of his impact. We’re better because we knew him,” Seals said.

Aaron was able to see the fruits of his labor before passing. Last year on his birthday, college leaders named the athletic complex after him.

“Not a baseball field, not a stadium but an academic complex, and for him that was so important,” said Allan Tanenbaum, a family friend and former board member of Atlanta Tech Foundation.

“He always wanted the kids to have the opportunity to pursue their dreams. ‘First listen to your teacher,’ he would always say. Second, read a book and read another book,” Tanenbaum said.
