The APS school year will start August 5.
School districts are still finalizing their masks plans for the fall semester, but there are others requiring masks for everyone. DeKalb County Schools and Clayton County Schools will also have a universal mask policy.
The school district said low vaccination rates and trends with the spreading Delta variant led to the decision.
About 18% of eligible students are fully vaccinated, according to Fulton County Health Department. About 58% of district employees reported in a survey that they are fully vaccinated or plan to be.
APS also cited the American Academy of Pediatrics recommendations for everyone to wear masks.
