Atlanta metro region - top 3 in growth

The US Census Bureau said the Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Roswell region is the the third-largest growing area in the nation. It is ranked behind Dallas and Houston, which took the number 1 and 2 spots respectively. According to the Census Bureau, that metro grew by 89,000 residents between 2016 and 2017.

Several other areas in the metro region also seeing jumps in growth explained Kennesaw State University economics professor Roger Tutterow. "In metropolitan Atlanta, Forsyth County, Cherokee County and Gwinnett were the three fastest growing. But also some pretty good growth out of Paulding and Fulton." said Tutterow.

Meanwhile, Cobb and Dekalb counties seeing the fewest number of move-ins, but still charting an increase in residents.

Outside the metro area, "The faster growing counties were counties like Oconee county which is outside of Athens and Columbia county outside of Augusta." said Tutterow.

As to why people are relocating, Tutterow said "Quality of life is one of the issues that drives migration patterns as well as economic opportunity."

But with that comes challenges, "fast growing communities have to wrestle with how they build out their infrastructure to provide services and education for their population." Tutterow said.

According to Tutterow, most of our new neighbors are coming from Illinios, California and the North East.
