Arrest made in Auburn Avenue shooting that killed 2, injured 12 over July 4 weekend

More than two months after a shooting killed two people and injured 12, Atlanta police announced they have made an arrest.

Police took De’Andre Brown, 26, into custody on Sunday and charged him with two counts of felony murder and one count of aggravated assault.

The shooting happened around 2 a.m. on July 5 off Auburn Avenue in northeast Atlanta. Police said a large group was watching fireworks when a car hit a pedestrian.

An argument broke out and escalated into gunfire, according to investigators. Police said 14 people were shot and taken to area hospitals.

Two people, 20-year-old Joshua Ingram and 32-year-old Erica Robinson, died from their injuries.

According to police, Brown was arrested while street racing -- the same thing he was doing the night of the shooting.

“It is not lost on us that the suspect of this shooting was apprehended while engaging in some of the same behaviors that were taking place at the time of the shooting which led to the deaths of Joshua Ingram and Erica Robinson. The Atlanta Police Department is focused on addressing this ongoing issue,” Atlanta police said in a statement. “It has been a regular issue, not only in Atlanta, but throughout the country and it is unacceptable. Reckless behavior like this has no place on the streets of our city and we will not sit back and allow it to occur, unchallenged. Through the use of technology, our discretionary units, increased enforcement activity in problem areas and with assistance from our local, state and federal law enforcement partners, we will be addressing these illegal activities.”

Atlanta police had been searching for suspects in the shooting for two months. In August, they released surveillance photos of persons of interest. Police said they still need your help to identify them.
