An armed man has surrendered to Henry County police more than eight hours after he barricaded himself inside a home with a young child, officials said.

Police were initially sent to the 100 block of East Atlanta Road in Stockbridge to investigate a domestic incident, Capt. Randy Lee told AJC.com.

The man had been involved in an argument with a woman in the home, Channel 2 Action News reported. When officers arrived, police said he locked himself in the home with a child and refused to come out, the news station reported.

The man was armed with a handgun, according to Lee.
