Accused church shooter due in court today

A man who opened fire inside the World Changers Church International killing someone, is set to appear in court Friday morning.

Billy Mackin, who witnessed 51-year-old Floyd Palmer open fire last month, killing 39-year-old Greg McDowell as he led a morning prayer service, tells Channel 2 Action News says McDowell walked on stage and simply opened fire.

"Anytime a man just about empty a gun into another man and then come back and shoot him again, that's cold," said Mackin.

Mackin says he thinks McDowell tried to shoot the man who was playing the music.

"He looked around for him, got off the stage and stuff, started walking toward him.  He broke and ran, ran around the pews and stuff," said Mackin.

Mackin's wife Diane says after that he calmly left the chapel.  She says while they're praying for McDowell's family, they are praying for Palmer as well.

"Well, he's a brother in the Lord.  Uh, you can't judge people," said Mackin.

Police have not released a motive.

Fulton County Magistrate Judge Karen Wordson will preside over the hearing set for 9am.
