Five members of the same Georgia family, including two young children, were killed in a wrong-way crash with a tractor-trailer in Alabama.

The crash happened around 12:30 p.m. on Friday on Interstate 65 N near Montgomery, according to the Macon Telegraph.

Police said a 2021 Toyota Corolla entered the interstate going the wrong way and hit an 18-wheeler.

All five members of the Georgia family were killed at the scene, including a grandmother, her son and daughter-in-law and two grandchildren. They’ve been identified as Maria Baltazar, 49; Hosea Lopez, 27; Veronica Gonzalez, 28; Christian Lopez Gonzalez, 10; and Edwardo Lopez Gonzalez, 4.

Police said Baltazar was driving the Corolla. The family was from Cairo in far southwest Georgia, AL.com reports.

The driver of the tractor-trailer has not been identified.

“We would like to remind drivers to remain vigilant and pay close attention to traffic signage, especially when travelling through unfamiliar areas,’’ Montgomery Police Sgt. Tin McGriff told AL.com

Family members have set up a fundraiser to raise money for the funerals.

The investigation is ongoing.
