More travel expected amid some lifted COVID-19 restrictions in Georgia

The COVID-19 restrictions Governor Brian Kemp enacted with the shelter in place order for any residents or visitors to Georgia over age 65 has been lifted. That may contribute to more family gatherings for weekend social events, and increased travel on state roadways. Expect increased surface street volume and expressway travel, as the weekend will also provide ideal weather for some (restricted) outdoor activities.

Expressway road work will block lanes in Sandy Springs for I-285 this weekend at the Georgia/400 Corridor project between Roswell Road (Exit 25) and Peachtree Dunwoody Road (Exit 28). Also expect lanes blocked on I-75 in Clayton County for the northbound ramp to I-285 (Exit 236) and between Jonesboro Road (SR-54, Morrow) and Tara Boulevard (Hwy 41, Exit 235). I-75 in Cobb County by Barrett Parkway (Exit 269), watch for work crews in one travel lane during overnights. More work on I-85/South in Atlanta will block up to three lanes past Georgia-400 (Exit 87), with work on I-285 in Clayton and Fulton Counties to block at least one lane between Riverdale Road (Exit 60) and Washington Rd. (Exit 1).

*All construction is as GDOT reports it and is weather-permitting. All times, lanes blocked, and locations could change.
