Georgia crosses 11-K coronavirus deaths over the weekend

Georgia has passed the 11,000 mark in deaths attributed to COVID-19.

On Saturday, the Georgia Department of Public Health reported 154 new deaths – the second-highest single day amount in the state. Three more deaths were reported Sunday to bring the total since the pandemic began to 11,032.

Sunday’s numbers from Georgia’s DPH included 5,404 new cases and another 104 patients now in the hospital. Georgia’s positive testing rate is 10.9%

State leaders have been working to amplify COVID vaccinations around Georgia. Governor Brian Kemp says nearly 400,000 people have now received the vaccine – nearly 200,000 of those since Monday. That is roughly an 80% increase in vaccinations in that time according to Kemp.
