More arrests made in Brunswick case

Two more arrests have been made in connection with the shocking case of a Brunswick toddler shot to death in his stroller last week--and a key piece of evidence may be coming to light.

De'Marquise Elkins' aunt told cops that the 17-year-old was eating eggs, sausage and grits she had made for the family, and then running errands with them, when Antonio Santiago was shot.  She claimed that he had been at the house for about an hour before the alleged armed robbery, showing up at about 8:15, and that he was still with them when they left the house to run errands. The toddler's mom, Sherry West, had said she had gone out for a walk with her little boy just after 9:00.

But now, Glynn County Police believe Katrina Elkins cooked up that alibi along with any breakfast she may have made.

Ron Corbett, the Undersheriff of the Glynn County Sheriff's Department, confirms that Glynn County Police brought charges against 33-year-old Katrina Latrelle Elkins, who was booked into jail early Tuesday morning on a felony charge of making false statements or writings.  Her sister Karimah Elkins, De'Marquise's mother, was arrested a couple of hours beforehand on an identical charge.

Each woman posted a preset bond of $1,104, and Karimah Elkins was released.  Katrina Elkins, however, is being held for authorities Henry County, where she is now accused of violating probation on charges of speeding and driving on a suspended license.

Glynn County Police Chief Matt Doering said after the women's arrests, each gave investigators information that led them to search a small saltwater pond.  They fished out a gun, which is being tested to see if it is the murder weapon.
