Double shooting in Henry County leaves one person dead, one critically injured

Police in Henry County are trying to determine if charges will be filed in a double shooting that left one person dead and another critically injured. Captain Joey Smith says the argument between Shayna Tolbert and her husband at their home on Gresham Road in Stockbridge on Sunday, was like something out of the wild, wild west.

"These individuals had some type of quarrel and they had, basically, a gun battle inside the home against each other. There's not one shooter. There's two shooters in this situation," said Smith.

He says the couple's three young children, between the ages of three to eleven, were at home at the time.

"They were familiar with what was going on, some type of dispute. They heard the shots and may have saw some of the incident; but I think they were trying to just take cover and get out of the way basically," said Smith.

Tolbert died and was found inside the home. Her husband was found near a neighbor's home with multiple gunshot wounds.

"We haven't released his information. He's in the hospital now in critical condition and the detectives are still trying to determine if it's possibly self-defense-type situation, or a mutual-type shooting," said Smith.

Smith says he doesn't know if they had been called to the home before or if there was a history of domestic abuse.

The children are in the custody of family members.
