Butts County school closes for 10 days with dozens of students in quarantine

BUTTS COUNTY, Ga. — Students who attend Jackson High School in Butts County are going back to virtual learning while they are under quarantine.

Jackson High School principal Will Rustin said in an email the virtual learning will be effective at the end of classes Thursday.

Virtual learning will last through Oct. 8 for all Jackson High School students. In-person learning is planned to resume on Oct. 14.

No other schools in the Butts County School System will be affected and will continue in-person learning.

As of Wednesday, 88 students and nine staff members are under quarantine for COVID-19.

There are also other students and staff awaiting test results which could increase these numbers.

Because of the high number of people quarantined it has become difficult for the school to maintain adequate staffing so a transition to virtual learning was decided.
