(ROCHESTER, NY.) — Believe it or not, video games have been a part of the fabric of American life for over a quarter century now. The Strong National Museum of Play in Rochester, New York, is dedicated to charting how Americans spend their leisure time.
This week, they announced the 2023 World Video Game Hall of Fame Finalists. Titles like Angry Birds, Rovio’s 2009 smash-hit mobile game sit alongside classics like GoldenEye 007 for the Nintendo 64 in vying for the title.
The Last of Us, now adapted into an HBO television show starring Bella Ramsay and Pedro Pascal, was originally released for the PlayStation 3 in 2013. It gained a nomination.
So did Wii Sports, the Nintendo title that became a household name after being bundled with the Nintendo Wii in a wildly popular package deal.
