A Gwinnett County judge has denied bond for Dragon Con co-founder Ed Kramer who is facing child molestation charges from more than a decade ago.
His new counsel, attorney Brian Steel, argued Kramer suffers a series of health conditions that the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Department can’t accommodate at the jail and needs to be on home confinement with an ankle monitor.
Kramer, who was wheeled into the court room attached to an oxygen tank, left after only an hour saying he was not feeling well.
“It’s very agonizing to see somebody who clearly has medical needs... to be incarcerated,” he told Judge Karen Beyers.
But District Attorney Danny Porter argued Kramer, through a series of delays, has prevented his case from coming to trial and believes he is simply playing a con game.
“I don’t care if his feet fall off, we would oppose a bond,” he says. “This defendant has consistently manipulated his own counsel, he’s manipulated the court, and he’s manipulated the state and it’s time to bring this case to a conclusion.”
Steel told the judge he estimated his client would be ready to come back to court in two to three months to discuss a trial date.
