Cherokee County deputies are trying to figure out how an elderly woman died. Her body was found Thursday afternoon in a small lake.
Neighbors like Mercedes Trudeau described the elderly woman as a solitary soul.
“As far as I know, she lived by herself and she had a little poodle,” said Trudeau. “She seemed all alone except for that dog. Sometimes, the dog ran away from her.”
The woman’s body was found floating in a small lake behind the apartment complex where she lived, near Highway 92 and Bells Ferry. Investigators are perplexed by the terrain, he said. Located at the bottom of a steep embankment and surrounded by thick foliage, it’s not a place you might casually stroll into by accident, Baker observed.
“Unless she wanted to get in the water, I don’t think she just fell into the water,” he told WSB’s Pete Combs.
An autopsy has been scheduled for Saturday morning.
