Bank decides not to evict woman, 103

A 103-year-old northwest Atlanta woman receives good news after her story of possible eviction attracts attention.

Chase Bank, which services the loan on the house on Penelope Road that's owned by Deutsche Bank, now says it has no plans to evict Vinia Hall and her 83-year-old daughter.

"That's a blessing," said Hall.

She tells Channel 2 Action News she has lived in the home for more than 50 years.

"I won't want a mansion because I love this place," said Hall.

The bank had wanted to evict the two women and sent movers and Fulton County sheriff's deputies Tuesday to collect their things.  But when authorities arrived they decided not to go through with it.

"I saw the sheriffs who came to put them out take off and leave. I gave all glory to God," community activist Michael Langford said.

State Senator Vincent Ford, Derrick Bozeman and Mayor Kasim Reed's office were all in contact with the banks.  Ford was pleased, but remained guarded in light of the bank's change of heart.

"I am glad to hear and read the statement issued by Chase, but I am not going to be satisfied, I will be very honest with you, until the deal is done," said Ford.

Hall is grateful for all of the support she received.

"I want God to bless them and he will," said Hall.

The legal fight over eviction started in 2009 and stems from a second mortgage taken out years ago by another family member.
