Okay, so it is well known that most of us hate the Florida Gators.  And that used to be easy.

It was easy to hate Steve Spurrier when he was with the Gators. He was (is) an arrogant jerk who not only whipped the Dawgs’ rear ends, but reveled in it.  It was easy to hate Urban Meyer when he was with the Gators.  He was (is) an unmitigated jerk.

But now there is Wil Muschamp.   There is nothing to dislike about him.  He’s a native of Rome, and a graduate of Darlington High School.  A former Georgia Bulldog safety in the early to mid 90’s, he was a roommate to our own broadcast colleague and All American Eric Zeier.  During his early career in coaching, his stops included Valdosta State and West Georgia.

Not only is he a former Georgia Bulldog, but he is a fine coach.  He is known as “Coach Boom” for his sideline rants and this year has tried to tone it down.  He recently told Jon Saraceno of USA Today that his demeanor last season was a factor in the Gators having an off year, "I felt our team unraveled in some critical situations, “Muschamp told Saraceno.  “But as I evaluated myself, I said, 'You came unraveled in some critical situations. Your team is a reflection of what you are doing.' So I made a deal with the team (in training camp): 'I am going to keep my control (and) we need to keep our control.' ''

Well, it’s doubtful that Muschamp has kept his control all season, but he has his team a game away from going to the SEC Championship.  Let’s face it, after the Georgia game, there is not much standing in the way of Florida running the table.

The Dawgs have a chance to win back to back games against the Gator for the first time since 1989, and if they do so it will make Muschamp 0-2 against the alma mater, so you can be sure that the Gator’s coach has more than one reason to beat UGA.

If the Dawgs win the game, it will be one of the biggest wins in the program since Mark Richt took the helm, and it will be fun.  It will be fun to win against a program whose fans are, by far, the most obnoxious in the SEC.  It will be fun to win against a program which has basically owned the Dawgs for the past two decades.

It would be just a lot more fun if Urban Meyer was on the other sideline.
