Old man winter takes yet another swipe

Previous Posts

Old Man Winter does not want to go down without a fight. Looks like a swing and a miss by the Georgia groundhog. Polar plunge will bring arctic air as cold or colder than anything seen so far this winter, and after so many days in the 60s to 70 it will feel all the worse.

What's more it will threaten plants budding and blooming early as a result of the mild winter. Snow flurries tomorrow morning, if any, will not matter for Metro Atlanta. It looks like a close call with snow or some ice Tuesday.

All models hint at least potential for a start as or mixed with event with light amounts. The Canadian model is the most bullish with significant snow and/or sleet. But it's too early to call without more consistency from the models this far in advance.

It looks like another close call or at least something worth watching could come along before the month is done as it looks like temperatures will average out below-normal through about Feb 24th or so.

Analogs for February through May in no particular order, are: 1919, 1921, 1951, 1953, 1957, 2000, 2002, 2006, 2008, 2009, 1972, 1989, 1996, 1999, 2010, 1963, 1965, 1968, 1971, 1975, 1985, 1969.
