ATHENS -- The Twitter handle for the Georgia football program is @werunthisstate.

No. 3 UGA left no doubt today that they still do.

Bulldog Nation seemed worried that the Dawgs would have one eye on the SEC Championship, another eye on the National Championship and get popped right in the nose during the State Championship.

There was no doubt they didn't.

"We don't look ahead when we play Georgia Tech," UGA head coach Mark Richt told the Georgia Bulldog Radio Network. "This game means a lot to us."

But the next one will mean even more.

When it got to be 42-3, UGA Tailgate Show icon Loren Smith came up to into the Larry Munson Broadcast Suite and said "we can start talking about Alabama now."

I was starting to think about Alabama when it was 14-0, but close enough.

I said myself  "Self, Georgia Tech isn't anywhere near the Dawgs class and there are just a few teams that are."

The Tide certainly is one of them.

I don't know many Alabama fans, but I have a feeling they aren't afraid of any team in the country.

But at this point, Georgia fans aren't either.

"We are the best team in the state and we are about to show everyone that we are the best team in the country," one Georgia fan told me.

That might be putting the leash before the Bulldog, but is there a hotter team in the country than this one?

"We've gotten better each week. We are putting together complete games," said Georgia wide receiver Rhett McGowan. "It's the right time because the biggest game of our lives is coming up next week."

Alabama is so good in so many places. But so is this group.

Georgia will have the best quarterback on the field and that always helps. The Dawgs might have the best defensive player on the field in Jarvis Jones. They may also have the second best player on the field, the way Alec Ogletree has been playing.

He's got 10 or more tackles in the last four games and in six games of the eight games he's played. He's now the team leader after everyone else got a month head start.

Plus they'll have a little bit of experience.

Things feel so much different this time around than the last trip to the Dome.

Few people thought Georgia could beat LSU. They, of course, were right.

"We were so excited to get there," said McGowan. "I think we set out goal too short. This year we made a big emphasis at the beginning of the year, we aren't going to get there we are going to win it."

Alabama hasn't been there since 2009. Yeah I know they won it all last year, but the point is, these guys are on level pegging.

When the season started, they were supposed to be. Both were in the top five. But after that loss to South Carolina it looked like the Dawgs were closer to Tech than the Tide.

"It's a long season," said Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo.

And  he's right.

The rough looking first halves against Buffalo and FAU don't matter. The 44 points allowed to Tennessee is irrelevant (that actually happened). The loss to South Carolina is pointless (well maybe, or at least that's what Oregon thinks).

All of Georgia's dreams are still in front of them. Except now it's not a fairy tale.

"I'm so excited, this is the biggest game I've ever played," said McGowan. "This is why I've played football since I was a little boy. This is my dream."

I don't know if Georgia will beat Alabama, but I have no doubt they can.

In October, no one thought that was possible.

But now, all of college football knows it is possible.

And if you win the SEC, you can win anything.
