Power crews make progress in restoring electricity across metro

ATLANTA — Power crews are working around the clock to get electricity restored to metro Atlanta residents still without.

Georgia Power says it expects to have restoration to most of its customers by later Sunday. The utility says its crews are now able to get to the hardest-hit areas to assess damage and get repairs done.

Georgia Power’s outage map as of early Sunday evening showed nearly 13,000 customers without electricity. The outages include in Smyrna, Marietta, extending to north and west of those cities.

Since noon Friday, the utility says it has been able to restore power to more than 365,000 customers.

Georgia EMC crews are also working in the field with repairs. As of 5 p,m. Sunday, it had 47,000 customers still in the dark.  Since the storm hit, its crews have restored electricity to 24,000 customers.
