Milton police are trying to determine a motive behind the shooting of a 19-year-old in his driveway.
Captain Shawn McCarty tells WSB the teen had just returned to his home on 320 Silhouette Court in the Avensong subdivision when the suspect approached him just before 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
"The only thing we know is the victim was in some type of verbal altercation with an unknown suspect. It turned violent and the suspect shot the victim," said McCarty.
The man, who was shot in the back of the head, was taken to North Fulton Regional Hospital where he later died.
"We have a lot of witnesses who are still trying to piece together a description of the suspect, any vehicles that were involved. We're also talking to the family and other witnesses to try and piece together what exactly occurred," said McCarty.
McCarty says this appears to be a random crime and robbery does not appear to be the motive.
“There is a killer loose in our neighborhood,” one of the victim’s neighbors told Channel 2 Action News. “It happened in broad daylight.”
The suspect fled on foot and then jumped into a vehicle. No word yet on a description of the suspect or the getaway car.
