  • Officers opened fire on a woman on U.S. Capitol grounds Wednesday morning after she nearly ran over multiple U.S. Capitol Police officers while fleeing from a traffic stop, authorities said. >> Read more trending stories No injuries were reported. Officers spotted a woman driving erratically around 9 a.m. on Independence Avenue and attempted to stop her car, Capitol police spokeswoman Eva Malecki said. The unidentified woman made a U-turn and fled. She stopped the sedan near the intersection of Washington and Independence avenues, where authorities apparently fired shots at the woman. Malecki declined to say where the bullets landed or how many shots were fired. The incident did not appear to be related to terrorism. “This appears to be criminal in nature with no nexus to terrorism,” Malecki said.
  • New York Mets reliever Jeurys Familia has accepted a 15-game suspension without pay under Major League Baseball's domestic violence policy. MLB announced the suspension Wednesday, and Familia has agreed not to appeal. The suspension stems from Familia's Oct. 31 arrest on a simple assault charge. Prosecutors later dropped charges. Familia's suspension will begin on opening day. He is eligible to continue to participate in all spring training and exhibition games and activities leading up to opening day.
  • The lionfish has a venomous reputation with its ability to multiply like crazy, gobble up numerous crustaceans and fish, and swim around the waters off Florida without any predator in sight.  Well, they may soon meet their match.  >> Read more trending news A group called Robots in Service of the Environment, or RISE, said it has created a robot that will help to eliminate these zebra-striped invasives, according to Mashable. Colin Angle, who co-founded RISE with his wife Erika, told Mashable that the robot will be unveiled next month. However, they did provide a few tidbits on how it will operate. Essentially the robot will stun the fish, suck them into its ‘belly’ and then rise to the surface once it has a full load. The idea is to then deliver the fish to restaurants and stores, Angle said.  Most scientists and environmentalists are worried about lionfish because they can produce up to 30,000 eggs every four to five days, according to RISE. That’s about 2 million eggs a year.  Each lionfish can eat 20 fish in 30 minutes.  Read more at Mashable.
  • Cristiano Ronaldo has an airport named after him, but it was his odd-looking statue that attracted attention in Wednesday's ceremony honoring the Portugal star in his hometown. The player's bronze bust, which was unveiled to much fanfare by Portugal's president and prime minister on the island of Madeira, hardly does the handsome footballer justice. It squashes his eyes close together, and the cheeky raised-eyebrow smile more resembles a leer. The face is also unusually chubby, in contrast to Ronaldo's chiseled looks. Dozens of guests and hundreds of fans were at the unveiling of the bust in Ronaldo's native Madeira Islands. It was part of an official ceremony to rename the local airport as Aeroporto Cristiano Ronaldo. Ronaldo also attended the ceremony, but did not show any signs of being bothered by the odd look of his newly unveiled bust. Ronaldo's full-body statue outside his museum in Funchal also does not do a very good depiction of the Real Madrid star, although it better resembles the player.
