A swimmer in distress was reported earlier Wednesday at Hickory Log Reservoir in Canton.

Officers were dispatched at 1:45 p.m. due to a call indicating that a swimming 17-year-old struggled in the water and went under after an attempted assistance from his friend.

The minor’s friend then swam to shore and called for help.

According to the Canton Police Department, police arrived on the scene and were unable to locate the swimmer in the water. CPD worked with conjunction with Canton Marine Patrol and Cherokee County Police to dispatch boats and continue the search.

The body of the swimmer was recovered by officals. The reservoir has only been open for two weeks.
