Storms damages small community in Gwinnett County

The Liberty Heights area off Buford Highway in Gwinnett County was hard hit during Thursday night's storms.

Power lines and trees lined the streets of the small community and one house suffered extensive damage with two trees fell through it.

A 13-year-old girl was in her bedroom when one of those trees came crashing through her ceiling.

"I was sitting on my bed and then the light went off and I fell on the floor, that's when the tree came down," she tells WSB's Sandra Parrish.  "I heard a loud noise and I started screaming and all the stuff from the roof fell on my head."

She wasn't seriously injured, but was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

Not far away, the roof of a building used for storage by the El Milagro Tortilla factory was blown off during the height of the storm.

Surveillance video captured an explosion as power lines pulled away from the building and debris flew across the parking lot and into the adjoining neighborhood.

Friday afternoon, power remained out on the stretch of Buford Highway between I-285 and Chamblee Tucker Road.
