Gwinnett County police are trying to dig up clues after a young man was found dead behind the tennis courts of a subdivision near Lawrenceville.

All investigators know about the victim is that he is a black male and possibly a teenager. They do think he was shot to death.

“It appears the male died of a possible gunshot wound,” Gwinnett Co. police Cpl. Ed Ritter told News/Talk WSB’s Sandra Parrish. “We are looking into that in further detail. The medical examiner is on scene.”

Residents of the River Stone subdivision called police after started hearing gunshots around 8:45 p.m. Tuesday.

The Crime Scene Investigation unit and homicide detectives spent the evening canvassing the area and talking to witnesses.

The victim’s name has not been released.

“We are not sure if he lives in the neighborhood, where he is from, his identity,” said Cpl. Ritter. “As time goes on we will determine that.”

The subdivision is at the intersection of Bridge Walk Drive and Oak Road.

River Stone neighbor Clementine Keen has lived with her husband and kids in their 300-thousand dollar home for 5 years.

She told WSB's Richard Sangster, "The recreation area, especially the basketball court attracts people who do not live in our community, not just kids and teenagers, but grown men.  Lots of neighbors have reported fights, drinking, drugging, drug paraphernalia, even sex; all sorts of incidents".

Clementine said she anticipated the murder, "A lot of people come to the subdivision with the intent of starting something, you can just tell it".
