It's a week of sticker shock and record-setting tolls for morning commuters using the new HOT lanes on I-85.
Monday and Tuesday the toll was $4.55; Wednesday rates rose to $4.70 - more than a gallon of gas to drive the 16 miles to work.
WSB Traffic Reporter Mark Arum said there's an art to driving the HOT lanes for less.
"Between 6:45am and 8:15am is when you'll see the expensive toll rates," Arum said. "If folks can wait until after 8:15, they'll pay less in the HOT lane."
SRTA or the State Road and Toll authority says it can raise the toll to 90-cents a mile or $14 in all if that is what is required to keep toll traffic moving at a minimum of 45 miles an hour.
