Two separate accidents occurred within blocks of each other in Midtown Friday afternoon.

Atlanta police say that they received the call around 2:30 p.m. for traffic accidents at Spring St. and Ponce De Leon Ave, and another crash on Spring St. and North Ave.

Three of the people involved tried to flee the scene on foot, but authorities say they were caught and detained.

The incidents started at the Varsity when a red SUV left the Varsity parking lot and ran into another car, which then in turn, hit a white SUV and overturned the vehicle. Authorities say that the red SUV then sped off and struck additional vehicles at the other intersection of Spring and North Ave. Atlanta police Lt. Paul Guerrucci says at least six vehicles were involved.

When the cars came to rest on North Ave. the suspects fled the scene on foot and were apprehended by Atlanta Police. The red SUV contained two males and one female. Atlanta Police say one of the males had a gunshot wound in his hand, but the other two were uninjured.

“Two people were shot,” says Lt. Guerrucci. “One was shot in the finger and transported to the hospital, another was shot in the chest, was transported to the hospital and remains in critical condition.”

Authorities say eight were injured including 2 children, but all are stable.
