The DOT is ready to open the shoulder to Georgia 400 drivers north of the perimeter.
Sometime next month, the they will open the shoulder to southbound motorists from Holcomb Bridge to North Springs during morning drive. Depending on how the initial test goes, the DOT may open the northbound shoulder at a later date.
Typically, the shoulder is reserved for emergency use.
