Three arrested for helping Rockdale County inmate escape

A Rockdale County jail escapee remains at large, but the sheriff's office confirms three people from West Virginia have been arrested for aiding in his escape.

Timothy Allen Ward is from West Virginia.  He walked away from a jail work detail August 5.  According to investigators, he left through an old entrance to the jail and ran into the woods.  He somehow traded his inmate's garb for a white shirt and pink shorts.

Ward allegedly stole a truck from Latex Construction on Farmer Road in Conyers.  Authorities have been on the look-out for the white 1997 extended-bed Chevy C2500 with Georgia tag IP150R.

The Rockdale County Sheriff's Office identifies two men and one woman in custody in connection with the alleged escape plot.  34-year-old Christopher Bryant of Charleston, W.Va., 24-year-old Anna Marie Moore of St. Albans, W.Va., and 38-year-old Shane Ray Thompson of Dunbar, W.Va. all face charges of aiding or permitting an escape.

A sheriff's spokesman does not offer any specifics about what these three may have done to facilitate Ward's escape.  He may be out of state, possibly back in West Virginia.

"This is still an active investigation and with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service, we are still looking for him," Sergeant Andy Arnold tells the Rockdale Citizen.

Ward was initially wanted for auto break-ins and a burglary in Conyers.  He's proven to be a slippery subject.  After a Conyers police officer arrested him in June, he claimed to be experiencing a medical emergency.  He escaped from Rockdale Medical Center, but was arrested days later in South Carolina.
