Necropsy results show a family of swans, killed over the weekend near a neighborhood lake in Suwanee, was shot to death with a BB gun.

The swans belonged to the Rosemoore Lake subdivision.

“That was target practice to get all of them… to get eight at one time,” Patti Webb tells WSB’s Sandra Parrish.

Webb and her husband Gary would feed the swans, two adults and six babies, in their back yard where the subdivision’s lake runs along their property.

The homeowners association purchased a male and female several years ago only to have that male shot in 2009.  The following year, two of the offspring were also killed.

“It’s not just one or two individuals, there’s a whole group of us that are hurt and are tired of this and we want justice,” says Webb.

Her husband found feathers where the eight were believed to have been shot in a neighboring subdivision.

“It seems to be the same vicinity… the same method,” says Webb.

Detectives with the Gwinnett County Police Department are conducting interviews in the case.

Suspects face charges ranging from animal cruelty to destruction of property.

Webb says the homeowners association may put up a reward for information leading to an arrest.  She says, for now, the neighborhood has no plans to replace the swans.

“We’re not going to set any other animal like that (up) to be targeted,” she says.
