State to move voter registration on-line

By Marcy Williams

Atlanta —

After next month's presidential election, Georgia plans to move voter registration on-line.

"If you have a driver's license in the future and you do it online, it'll just be done automatically because we will have already done all these checks," Secretary of State Brian Kemp tells WSB.  "We already have your electronic signature and your information has been checked and for us, it's more secure as well."

Secretary Kemp's waiting until after the November 6th election to kick the process into high gear.  His office now is working through boxes and boxes of voter registration.

"It'll certainly be a lot quicker than it is now doing it by mail," Kemp tells WSB.  "The last couple weeks you just wouldn't believe the amount of mail that we've had."

Kemp anticipates turn-out this election between 70 and 75 percent.  Early voting begins next week.
