College Park police have charged the owner of that airport shuttle bus in the May wreck near Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport that injured 17 people.

On Monday, the police department announced it was charging both the tractor-trailer driver and the shuttle bus driver in the crash on Loop Road.

Tuesday, police charged MTI shuttle company owner Michael Toi with running an unsafe vehicle and allowing an unlicensed person to operate a vehicle.

State officials say had they seen it beforehand, the shuttle would have been taken out of service.  The tire tread, rear brakes, and brake fluid were all improperly maintained.

All three people have until the end of Tuesday to turn themselves in.

Investigators said the bus skidded nearly 160 feet before crashing into the side of the tractor-trailer. Seventeen people were injured in the crash, including the bus driver.

Truck driver Mario Cochran did not comment on the charges of making an improper turn.

Police also charged bus driver Yolanda Boles with not having a proper license to drive the bus, something a fellow driver told Channel 2 after the crash.

“I was constantly telling them (MTI Shuttle and Limousine) about drivers that had no commercial license, no passenger endorsement, and driving the buses,” former bus company employee Chysanthevonne Glenn said.

On Monday, MTI’s owner told Channel 2 that the allegations were true and that 15 of the company’s 75 drivers do not have commercial drivers’ licenses, but added that those drivers are not supposed to drive shuttle buses.

He said he will change company policy and make sure all drivers have CDLs.
