Security guard charged with stabbing fraud suspect at Gwinnett bank

A former police officer working as a security guard at a Grayson bank is charged with stabbing a man who attempted to cash a fraudulent check this week.

Surveillance video from Brand Bank on Grayson Hwy. shows 29-year-old Ivan Clark with his hands up as he attempted to bypass 67-year-old Dale Taylor and flee through the bank’s doors.

“At that point an altercation ensured and Clark was stabbed in the abdomen,” says Gwinnett Police Cpl. Deon Washington.

He tells WSB’s Sandra Parrish that deadly forced was not warranted in the case.

“The male was clearly unarmed; he didn’t have any weapons and he was actually trying to leave the location,” says Washington.

Clark was found by police about a half mile away and transported to the hospital.

He faces a charge of misdemeanor forgery while Taylor is charged with one count of aggravated assault, a felony.

According to the Georgia Peace Officers Training and Standards Council, Taylor worked for Lawrenceville Police from 1995-2002 and Auburn Police from 2002-2005. An Open Records request also reveals that Georgia P.O.S.T. conducted three investigations of Taylor.

He was forced to resign in lieu of termination from Lawrenceville Police in 2002 while under investigation for sexual assault. In 1998, he was investigated for using pepper spray and hitting a drug suspect in the head with a flashlight who was handcuffed at the time.

In 1993, he was investigated for sexual harassment against a female trainee while working as a training instructor for the state.

Brand Bank had no comment on the incident.
