Yes you read that headline correctly. As Kirk has been warning in his blog since January 7th Old Man Winter has not given up.

Just a few days after we enjoyed mid-70s top-down weather, WSB meteorologist Kirk Mellish is look at the possibility of some snow or a rain-snow mix developing during the day or evening Thursday.

Right now Mellish is forecasting mostly rain for Thursday but “we will have to watch that “snow line closely,” says Mellish. "Accumulation is most likely on grassy areas along and North of a Toccoa to Buchanan line, but that could change". It’s going to be cold and cloudy with highs only in the  40s and lows near freezing.

The National Weather Service said Tuesday a “deep cold air mass will begin to spread into the area from west to east Thursday afternoon and evening. As a result, there is a potential for rain to change over to snow across parts of north Georgia if sufficient wrap around moisture can spread back into the cold air mass behind the departing cold front.”

But Mellish says those recent 70 degree days make snow on roads less likely, these types of storms are tough to forecast because it's rain to start so any snow chances might be a last second call. Accumulation on the roads is not expected as of now. Read Kirk's blog for more details.

As for Wednesday, the on and off rain and fog will continue, getting heavier at night with highs in the 50s and lows 46.

After the complicated day on Thursday, Mellish is calling for sunshine Friday with highs in the low 50s and lows 27-35.

The weekend should also be beautiful for winter. Mellish again is calling sunshine and highs in the 50s and lows 28-38.

The recent rain this week has helped metro Atlanta’s two major lakes. Allatoona and Lanier are up nearly six inches in the past week.

Both lakes remain well below full pool, however, with Lanier down about 11 feet and Allatoona down more than 15 feet.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced in mid-December that it would reduce water releases from Lanier through at least April 30.
