Nothing's too broken for the right leaders to fix

We just haven't seen any real leaders lately.

The IRS is broken. The tax code is broken. Social Security is headed off a cliff. Medicare and Medicaid are headed for bankruptcy. The economy is growing at an anemic rate. Around the world, our friends don't trust us, and our enemies don't fear us.

We can't fix foreign policy until we fix who is in the White House. We can't fix the economy and have robust economic growth until we fix the tax code. We can't fix the tax code until we replace it. We can't fix Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid until we restructure them.

Tragically, most members of Congress believe all of these components of our federal government are too broken to be fixed. Sadly, many voters are starting to believe the same thing, because nothing gets better coming out of Washington, D.C.

I still remember former Senator Rick Santorum saying to me during a presidential debate that in Washington, you have to propose things that will pass Congress.

Cleaver tax plan ideas like 9-9-9 will never pass, he informed me, as if the things that can pass are solving anything. This is just example of many, and it's a perfect representation of the mindset in Washington D.C. It doesn't matter how good an idea may be substantively. It only matters how politically plausible it is.

The solution: A president who can lead on behalf of the people and not politics.

My definition of leadership has not changed over the years. Namely, leadership is working on the right problems, asking the right questions, and removing barriers to success. We have not had a leader in the White House in quite a while. Decades!

Today, we see the wrong problems being focused on, driven by the White House and the accommodating media narrative. Meanwhile, the right questions are avoided, and barriers to success and the American dream are growing everyday by leaps and bounds.

In the meantime, we must continue to reveal the truth, give people the facts and pray the voters get it right in November 2016. At the same time, hold on and try to minimize the damage.  But it starts with believing things are not too broken to fix.

I'm a believer.
