The media had plenty to talk about, but not much that really matters.

It is a habit of mine when I take a few days off for relaxation to not watch any news programs, listen to the radio, or read the morning newspapers, so I can gauge how much has changed in the news when I re-engage five days later.

When I turned on the TV as I was getting ready to catch my flight back home, I became aware of the passing of golfing great Billy Casper, the passing of basketball great Dean Smith of the University of North Carolina, and the murder of Kayla Mueller by ISIS terrorists.

We pray for comfort for all families who have lost loved ones recently.

But I also learned that NBC News anchor Brian Williams was suspended for six months for "misremembering" some facts about his visit to Iraq during the Iraq War.  And now NBC executives are trying to do damage control, while searching for other possible instances of "misremembering".

I don't give a rat's apple about NBC's brand, but I sure hope some people who only get their news from the three major TV networks will start to wake up. I don't believe false reporting is rampant through NBC and its affiliate organizations, but this incident should cause people to be more aware of its consistent liberal leanings in reporting the news.

The Media Research Center has documented liberal media bias for decades, but a lot of people don't know they are being fed only a liberal point of view with omissions, deceptions and slant with a "wink wink" when their only sources of news are the three evening network broadcasts.

Then, I learned that President Obama has sent a letter to Congress requesting more war powers authorizations to fight ISIS. Wow! A letter! As Dan pointed out in his commentary yesterday, it's Obama's way of further restricting his use of ground troops so he can keep a political promise, and coop the Congress as part of an ultimate failed "non-strategy" to defeat ISIS.

Meanwhile, there was not a big story in the news about ObamaCare, which continues to be a disaster that the mainstream media is downplaying. I explained to a couple of hotel workers who asked me about it that they should pay attention to the pending Supreme Court decision on subsidies. If they rule later this summer that the federal exchanges cannot provide subsidies, then that could be the beginning of the dismantling of ObamaCare.

They had all expressed to me that ObamaCare was the biggest threat to their jobs, because they could not afford it. That certainly was not new news to most of us, just more confirmation.

Oh, Jon Stewart announced that he is stepping down from his Daily Show. Wow! That's a great story for Jon Stewart, but I would like to talk about a balanced budget, lower taxes and less regulation on businesses.

Since the major networks will not, we will. Somebody's got to do it.
