After beat down, Democrats really need to change their party

You’d think when we started 2015 that maybe, just maybe we could get some meaningful bipartisan Congressional progress. Sadly, it appears more gridlock is inevitable, but that hasn't stopped Congressional Democrats from complaining. Here’s a news flash to the minority Congressional Democrats, you were spanked in 2014 and really need to stop crying.

It was inevitable. After the shellacking in the 2014 Midterm Elections, you’d think Democrats would get the message that they really need to change their identity. They've progressively lost seats in every election since 2010.

The 114th Congress just began and all I see in my various news feeds are overly dramatic Democrats crying over policies where they're in a clear minority.

Oh but don’t worry, Republicans have their own identity problems.  Is Mitt Romney really running for President again? What in the world is going on?

I've got news for my Democratic friends. Most American elections are swayed by moderates. Moderates perpetuate the ever continuing election cycles. Republicans have reinvented their party and persuaded moderates to join them. Democrats need to reinvent their party. They must adjust to fulfil the changing views of the moderate American public. If you’re reading this and think you’re a true ‘die hard Democrat’ then how in the world did you not see this coming?

Republicans have been through this, they adjusted, and could keep a Congressional majority in 2016. However, these fruitful times are ever so familiar, just ask a Republican friend about the body slam they received in the 2006 and 2008 elections.

For Democrats out there, take note that President Obama’s poll numbers have constantly dwindled since 2009. That’s not a good ally. Remember President Bush’s poll numbers in his second term? CBS News has Obama at a 46% approval rating. According to Gallup in 2007, Bush’s approval rating was 36%. With the continuous news cycle this could become the new Presidential trend with the fate of the White House at stake in 2016.

The American people don’t trust today’s politicians. It’s scary to think that these two parties honestly think they're unbeatable. We’ve seen that it’s really easy to be lured into false political party security. More Congressional gridlock is not what the American public wants. Congresses approval rating has been nothing short of horrible over the past 6 years. A brand new NBC News/Wall St. Journal poll has their approval rating at a whopping 16%.

It’s hard to imagine Congress getting much worse in 2015, but continual gridlock will likely lead to that outcome. Is this the golden opportunity for a third party?
