North Fulton police departments create child abduction team

By Jennifer Griffies

Police in North Fulton County are joining forces to form a team to respond to cases of child abduction.  Roswell Police are spearheading the effort called CART or Child Abduction Response Team.

Fulton County Police Officer Lisa Holland tells Channel 2 Action News one of the reasons behind this was the kidnapping and murder in Canton, last year of seven-year-old Jorelys Rivera.

"If an abduction happens in Alpharetta, then we'd all go to Alpharetta to help and support them," said Holland.

The response team will consist of members of every north Fulton County police department.

"What's great about it is everybody has their own resources and equipment that we can all borrow and share and use within each community," said Holland.

Alpharetta Assistant Administrator James Drinkard says this gives them the resources to respond more quickly.

"Certainly Alpharetta is very much interested in being a part of this.  When critical incidents like a child abduction happens, we need to come together," said Drinkard.

Parent Darlene Franco loves the idea.

"I think collaboration is always a good thing and with child abductions you never really know where that could lead," said Franco.

The first of many meetings was recently held.  Officers who will participate in the program will take a class in March to get things moving.
