Georgia's new drivers' license requirements had drivers waiting in line for upwards of six hours just to renew.

Trips to the Georgia Department of Driver Services are usually just a headache. But with new laws in place, the wait to get your license renewed has turned into a nightmare.

Try six hours of waiting just for a renewal.

That was the scene at the DDS office in Norcross where they were even telling customers to go home – at 1:30 in the afternoon.

"As I pulled up, there was a line outside. And then it snaked around and around and around and around," Selina Judd told Channel 2 Action News.

The state is blaming the delays on new requirements that took effect July 1.

As part of the Secure ID Act drivers must renew their licenses in person and bring several additional documents proving their identities.

Drivers now need to bring one document to prove your identity, another document to prove your social security number and two more to prove your address.

Thursday was the second day with the new law and the state says they are still working the kinks out.

To make matter worse, some of the booths at the DDS office in Norcross were closed.

A spokesperson said those people were either conducting drivers test or were out to lunch.

22 DDS positions have been added across the state to handle the new Secure ID program. The state is still hiring to fill those positions.
