MADD: Data about where teens get alcohol and what parents can do

By Veronica Waters

Where do teenaged drinkers get their booze?

Mothers Against Drunk Drivers is out with data from a federal survey that shows a simple answer.  According to MADD president Jan Winters, "A large number of our teenagers get their alcohol from adults.  So, it is not just a teen problem; it is an adult problem"

Winters says that underscores the need for parents to have ongoing talks with their kids.  One in four teen drinkers said they got alcohol from a parent, guardian or family member, and three out of four teens say their parents are their biggest influence when it comes to decisions about drinking.
