Conjoined twins complete belly closure operation after separation surgery

The conjoined twin's bellies are officially closed up, after a separation surgery last weekend.

According to the Prayers for Carter & Conner Facebook Page, the Mirabal twins were separated in a long surgery that involved nearly 17 health care professionals.

The team separated the boys’ liver, common bile ducts and small intestines.

Their abdomens were temporarily closed with a piece of plastic.

The plastic was removed once their skin became stretched enough to close without hurting their organs.

The parents learned Monday that the boys could be home in about a month.
Dr. Solange Benjamin, medical director of the PICU, said in a statement, "Our ultimate goal is to prepare Carter and Conner for their lives as healthy and active boys!”

We have our own bellies now!!
