More cameras coming to Fulton high schools

By Mark Alewine

Fulton taxpayers will foot the bill to make all the county's high schools safer.

On Thursday, the Board of Education approved spending between $850,000 and $1 million to equip every high school with at least 60 security cameras.

The new surveillance systems will be used to protect students, guard expensive school equipment and track bad behavior on campus. Administrators will also be able to remotely access live video feeds at night, on weekends and holidays and during the summer.

“Cameras are part of the puzzle for the overall safety and security of a campus,” Patrick Burke, chief of operations for Fulton schools told the AJC. “Given the square footage of our high schools and the restorations we have been doing, it makes sense that we add some additional cameras.”

The funds to purchase, operate and maintain the new security equipment will come from a SPLOST that's set to run through 2017.
