Midtown residents run down wanted man

By Jay Black

This is what they mean by neighborhood watch.

It was Atlanta Police who started chasing a wanted man by car. But it was some Midtown Atlanta residents who finished off the chase on foot.

Cops have not said yet why they were chasing the suspect Monday night. The car chase ended when the suspect crashed his vehicle at intersection of Mintel and 7th streets.

That suspect then got out of the car and ran through the back yards of numerous homes and even dodged some serious obstacles.

“I have a nine-foot wall with spikes,” Midtown resident Randall Cobb told Channel 2 Action News. “He managed to climb over all of that and get to the other side.”

Some of those residents saw what was going on and joined in.

The group of homeowners, some armed with guns, ran after the suspect and eventually caught him near Charles Allen Drive and held him until police could arrest him.

“It’s just kinda like instinct,” Scott Janz, who helped with the chase, said. “You see the cops struggling for whatever reason and you want to help out.”

“Great neighborhood effort and the cops were here in a very short period of time,” Cobb said.

Atlanta Police have not revealed the man’s name or what charges he will face.  No one was hurt.
