STONE MOUNTAIN —

Michael Vick has been back in Atlanta several times since leaving the city as an athlete. But he's never made an appearance quite like Saturday's in Stone Mountain.

The former Atlanta Falcon, whose arrest on dog fighting charges made national headlines, was in town Saturday promoting his new autobiography. He spoke to a crowd at Victory for the World Church, and also tried to recruit volunteers for a program to help teenagers in jail.

"Ever decision counts," Vick told Channel 2 Action News. "It's very important to think before you speak, think before you act. And kind of depend on the people who really believe in you."

Vick was forced to cancel appearances earlier in the week after threats were made to both Barnes and Noble Booksellers, as well as to Vick's publishers.

"That's a very selective few people, who still have their own form of hatred," Vick said of those people making the threats. "The most important thing for me to do is to continue to stay positive. Continue to do the right thing because that's what is going to make a difference."

As for the audience at the event for Vick, some seemed to appreciate what he brought to the table.

"I really appreciate him coming out today and just letting the kids know that even though you make mistakes in life, you can still bounce back and be successful," said Natalie Harris, who brought her two sons to the event.
